Peccary, unlined

Hello,

I'm Noguchi from CASANOVA&CO.

Some of you may have guessed from the title, but today I'm talking about gloves.

For about two years now, we've been offering Post Production's Mil Gloves, which are deerskin gloves.

These are luxurious gloves made from Finnish deer leather, which offers excellent grip, and a cashmere lining that feels fantastic against the skin, all with outstanding cost performance.

They're really excellent gloves, and we received a lot of positive feedback from our customers.

However, I own a pair of these Mil Gloves myself and they were incredibly useful last winter, but I discovered a small issue for myself.

That issue was that they were "too warm."

No, this is actually a benefit and not a problem at all. (laughs)

However, I cycle intensely for about 20 minutes to and from work, and I tend to sweat a lot, so my cashmere lining would get drenched in sweat even in the middle of winter.

To top it all off, I even got heat rash on my palms in the dead of winter. (laughs)

But then again, when visiting a shrine for New Year's or doing activities outdoors in winter where I wasn't moving much, I was grateful to have warm gloves.

It was a conflict between a small discomfort that lurks in everyday life and the fundamental need for gloves to actually keep you warm when it matters.

It's a dilemma.

That's when the "one pair of gloves is not enough" theory exploded in my mind.

I need both warm gloves and not-too-warm gloves.

This may sound luxurious, but it's the only solution.

Once I made up my mind, things moved quickly.

I decided to buy gloves that aren't too warm.

I was already planning to buy new gloves about two weeks after I started using the Mil Gloves. (laughs)

Gloves that weren't too warm and fit my style and mindset.

But this turned out to be surprisingly difficult.

When looking for good gloves, traditional European brands are probably the first choice, but they are a bit too traditional and don't quite match my style.

On the other hand, I wasn't looking for something avant-garde either, and I was struggling to find something in between.

Then, as winter was drawing to a close, and I was starting to forget about my oddly specific need for gloves that weren't too warm, I visited Post Production's exhibition.

Just as I was thinking, "I need warm gloves, so I'll probably need Mil Gloves again this year," a pair of peccary gloves on a desk at the brand's atelier, where the exhibition was held, caught my eye.

I instinctively checked the inside of the gloves.

They had cashmere lining.

Before I could even think, I blurted out, "Can you make these without the lining?"

Mr. Kai kindly informed me, "No, it won't be warm without the lining."

The words "I want gloves that aren't warm" almost escaped my lips, but I realized from an objective perspective that I was about to say something strange, so I stopped.

I vaguely understand the common saying that "peccary is typically unlined."

But that's not the point.

They need to be unlined to not be too warm.

So, I asked Mr. Kai for unlined gloves, and he obliged.

It turned out to be incredibly good, but first, let me introduce the item itself.

There are three decorative stitches on the back of the hand.

This stitching is said to have originated from a certain brand of gloves, and it gives them a slightly dressy impression.

It's designed to be fastened with a snap on the inside of the wrist.

While the Mil Gloves had an adjuster mechanism, this snap closure also creates a different mood from the Mil Gloves.

The thumb pattern, designed for range of motion, and the exposed seams are details that I think became even more noticeable and appreciated because of the unlined construction.

The inside is unlined, so you can see the suede side.

Peccary leather is very flexible and tough, but its distinctive feature is the smooth, velvety feel of the suede side.

The way it adheres to your hand when you put it on is unique to unlined peccary.

Also, at the end of the three decorative stitches, peccary leather is applied from the back to provide reinforcement and comfort against the skin.

By the way, although not shown in the photos, the starting points of all three stitches are covered with fusible interlining.

This is likely done to provide support without adding bulk, as it's an area close to the finger joints.

The unlined design really allows you to see the meticulous attention to detail.

Furthermore, by not using the original lining, the size was finely adjusted for the unlined version.

I believe you'll feel the stretch and conformity unique to leather directly.

We'll provide detailed information about the sizing in-store, but I think even those who found the Mil Gloves a bit tight will be able to wear these.

Here's how they look when worn.

Since they're unlined, they don't look bulky and have a sleek appearance.

It seems possible to differentiate their use from the Mil Gloves based on appearance as well.

Well, the best thing to do is really try them on in the store.

The supple feel of the peccary and the way it hugs your hand offer a different kind of comfort than cashmere lining.

However, I'm not saying one is better or more authentic than the other; rather, both have their merits, and understanding each one enriches your experience.

From there, it's a matter of preference, so choose the one you like.

Oh, and as for not being warm enough, they're perfectly just right. (laughs)

They effectively block the wind but don't retain body heat, allowing for some ventilation.

However, if you tend to get hot easily, I think the unlined version would be perfectly fine for Japan's climate.

Well, I think the best approach is to use them interchangeably.

Therefore, I don't recommend them if you're looking for gloves to wear in extreme cold, but I think they're excellent for those who plan to wear them daily while doing various activities.

Also, if you're considering gloves as a piece of your styling, the unlined option might be a smarter choice.

They will be available in stores starting tomorrow, so please check them out if you're interested.
