WR/ESSE The Plain, a beautiful, understated T-shirt in SHADOW

Hello.

This is Noguchi from CASANOVA&CO.

Today, I'd like to talk about this event again, which starts this weekend.

WONDER ROOM ESSE

collection 003 launch event

2026.02.28 (SAT) - 2026.03.08 (SUN)

It's just two days away.

I'm so excited for everyone to see and be amazed by The Step, the revolutionary jersey slacks from PEBBLE that I introduced yesterday. But today, please let me introduce something else.

Honestly, I intended to prepare photos of someone wearing it, but I didn't have enough time, so I'll show you the styled look tomorrow.

What I want to introduce today is this:

For WONDER ROOM ESSE, which meticulously pursues jersey knit fabrics, a jersey T-shirt is an indispensable item.

In fact, to experience WONDER ROOM ESSE through your skin, on the layer closest to it, it's no exaggeration to say it's the most crucial item.

In collection 003, now "ESSE," I believe this T-shirt is where you'll strongly feel the evolution from WONDER ROOM to WONDER ROOM ESSE.

That's because it's a completely new T-shirt style, using the fabric named SHADOW, which has been adopted since the debut season.

First, let's briefly review the fabric.

SHADOW is a slub jersey material.

Generally, slub yarn gives the impression of positively transforming unevenness in inexpensive raw material threads.

They'd say, "It adds character and also feels less clingy."

However, Mr. Kakoi would never be satisfied with such ordinary, inexpensive raw materials. The starting point for SHADOW was his attempt to create slub yarn from carefully selected, high-quality cotton.

But no matter how he tried to create unevenness in the thread with high-quality cotton, because the cotton was so good, it always ended up as a smooth, beautiful thread.

It must be that longer fibers don't create unevenness.

So, Mr. Kakoi developed a machine that could forcibly create unevenness in the thread even when using high-quality raw materials, thereby creating the contradictory existence of "high-quality slub yarn."

SHADOW is made by generously using this yarn and knitting it tightly.

This random unevenness feels incredibly pleasant in the steamy heat of summer.

Even if you sweat or it gets humid, it doesn't stick to your skin; it gently separates.

Since it's tightly knitted, its durability is guaranteed, but because the raw material is high quality, it feels plump and comfortable to wear.

Since CASANOVA&CO has been introducing the brand to customers since its debut season, many of you must already be familiar with SHADOW's well-thought-out, unique design.

This time, SHADOW has been made into a T-shirt called "The Plain."

As the name "The Plain" suggests, its shape is indeed plain.

However, as indicated by the definite article "The," it implies that the plainness WR/ESSE aims for and the plainness we seek are a shared, identical object, and also implicitly suggests that it is a unique and supreme item.

Because it's "The" Plain.

That's probably what it means.

No, please let it mean that. (laughs)

Nevertheless, this "The Plain" truly impressed me.

It's hard to put into words, but in short, it's a "T-shirt that makes you stand up straight."

I believe the secret lies in its pattern.

Doesn't this photo tell the whole story?

It has an orthodox sizing that is neither oversized nor tight.

When worn, the sleeve length comes to about above the elbow.

Aside from the beautiful drape that rises to conceal the base of the arm, it might appear to be a perfectly ordinary design, but what deserves attention, I believe, is the "center back seam."

While there's a trend to value T-shirts made with a tubular body, WR/ESSE focused on the fundamental structural limitations.

If you're aiming for a perfectly beautiful form in a T-shirt, it's impossible to create the body section from just two pieces of fabric, the front and back, let alone a tubular body.

In the world, this structure is common for T-shirts, but with this structure, the fabric inevitably sags in the back.

The side seams of both body panels cannot fully address this, leaving an "unpleasant bulge" in the back.

While I called it an "unpleasant bulge," it was something that was tacitly tolerated as part of a T-shirt's nature, or honestly, often not even paid much attention to.

"That's just how T-shirts are," you'd think.

However, the moment I put on "The Plain," I realized the fact that I "hadn't paid attention until now."

The Plain changes your posture.

It makes your posture look incredibly neat, as if your spine is perfectly aligned.

I truly felt it was a T-shirt that makes you stand up straight.

You can see the center back seam appears to curve upwards from about the middle of the body length.

I believe this isn't about "flaring towards the hem," but rather about "reducing the bulge in the back."

To control the amount of this unnecessary bulge that is removed, the center back seam was absolutely essential.

It's not an "additive seam" to achieve an extreme design, but a "subtractive seam" aimed at refined beauty.

An incredibly reserved and stoic T-shirt.

Of course, having a seam down the center back means there will be overlapping seam allowances there.

However, to ensure this doesn't act as a negative, the inside of the center back seam, like the back of the neck, is finished with a binder from underneath, providing comfort against the skin and protecting the stitching.

It is truly meticulously crafted.

The shoulder line, armholes, and sleeve hems are double-stitched.

While it gives a tough impression visually, I think it makes the T-shirt's outline very solid.

The neckline is also double-stitched.

Neither the sleeves nor the hem have ribbed cuffs.

The body fabric is folded over and secured with double-needle stitching.

This specification has been used since the debut and is one that I really like.

Firstly, the appearance is clean, and the slightly wider hem gives a sense of security even after many washes.

Just like yesterday's PEBBLE "The Step," this one is also incredibly tough.

During the debut season event, we displayed SHADOW fabric that had been washed 100 times, and there was hardly any change. (laughs)

It's such a strong garment that it doesn't even allow for the killer phrase "aged beautifully."

As I said in yesterday's blog, I believe the "ESSE" part is more strongly expressed when the meticulously crafted fabric and the well-thought-out, simple, and beautiful design come together perfectly.

And with such clothing, I believe it can remain a part of your life for 5 or even 10 years to come.

For clothing to be tough, it's not just about the fabric being strong; the stitching and design must also be able to withstand an even longer period.

Even though it's a T-shirt with no logos, prints, or embroidery, the fact that it embodies the brand's style so well and has such a unique character, I believe, significantly extends its lifespan.

Moreover, just a T-shirt and jersey pants are enough to complete an outfit.

That is, if we're talking about SHADOW's The Plain and PEBBLE's The Step.

It shares a silent beauty with PEBBLE's The Step, I believe.

Tomorrow, I'll definitely introduce the "complete look" with someone wearing it.

Also, I received "PEBBLE's The Step that has been worn for 207 days and washed 53 times" from Mr. Kakoi, so I plan to show you pictures of that as well.

Please look forward to it.
