DAN TOMIMATSU -PROCESS RING-

Hello.

I'm Noguchi from CASANOVA&CO.

Today, I'd like to talk about this event again.

DAN TOMIMATSU ORDER EXHIBITION

2025.05.02 (SAT) - 2025.05.10 (SUN)

It starts this weekend.

On May 2nd, the first day, Mr. Shiiki, who has supported the brand since its inception, will be present, so we hope you look forward to it.

Today, I'd like to introduce a newly launched series.

The title gives it away, but it's the PROCESS RING series.

It's a series classified under the MATERIA collection within DAN TOMIMATSU's collections.

I was first introduced to the PROCESS RING exactly one year ago at a DAN TOMIMATSU exhibition.

As I often mention, it's rare for DAN TOMIMATSU to release a large number of new products.

However, last year was an exception.

It was the unveiling of the "SET" collection.

Actually, Mr. Shiiki had told me about the SET collection beforehand, but as it was an opportunity to see the real thing, I headed to Tokyo.

Due to difficulties in production, I believe the general release schedule for this SET collection is still undecided, but it was a collection that explored new expressions for DAN TOMIMATSU.

And that new expression was "stone."

DAN TOMIMATSU describes all the rings, bangles, and necklaces in their brand as "jewelry."

This is because if "accessory" refers to something that decorates clothing, "jewelry" is considered a concept that beautifies the human heart. And in "jewelry," the presence of "stones" is unavoidable.

Stones, in this context, refer to gemstones such as rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and diamonds.

In other words, the SET collection marked DAN TOMIMATSU's entry into the stage of expressing itself using "gemstones" as a jewelry brand.

In this SET collection, diamonds are "set" in an innovative way. The PROCESS RING, on the other hand, finds beauty in the most primitive methods and techniques of "setting" them.

This is PROCESS 04 in K18YG, with diamonds actually set.

Normally, when setting gemstones like diamonds, the gemstone's place is created in one of two ways: "carving a groove" or "creating a bezel."

In the PROCESS RING, the process of "carving a groove" is divided into chapters and expressed as 01 to 04.

PROCESS 01

PROCESS 01 is a very flat state, without any grooves.

However, the metal "distortion" that appears due to the difference between the outer and inner circumference when a square bar of silver, like those in the MATERIA series' BENT RING, is shaped into a ring, has been neatly removed.

In other words, the PROCESS RING starts with a base that is perfectly prepared to receive gemstones.

PROCESS 02

In PROCESS 02, countless holes are made at regular intervals.

I tried to count the number of holes, but my eyes got dizzy, so I stopped. (lol)

All the "processes" in the PROCESS RING are carried out by hand by artisans.

Of course, this process of making holes too.

PROCESS 03

In PROCESS 03, each of the countless holes is expanded conically, revealing the gemstone's resting place.

However, by expanding conically, the distance between each hole becomes less than 1mm.

Although a deviation of less than 1mm may seem very small numerically, it creates a significant sense of discomfort to the naked eye.

However, there is no such discomfort in the PROCESS RING.

PROCESS 04

size _ #3 ~ #20

PROCESS 04 is shaped like a cross cut into the center of each of the previous holes.

This completes the preparation for setting gemstones, and the entire ring takes on a gear-like shape.

And this is the double-row version.

This is the PROCESS RING lineup and what it aims to express.

I believe that all of you who have read this far can feel the beauty and strength of the PROCESS RING, almost forgetting that it is "a process for setting gemstones."

Normally, the "main" gemstone would be placed here, and the process of "carving grooves" is intended for that purpose.

However, at the culmination of that process itself, a mysterious beauty emerges, whether there is a gemstone there or not.

It's a very DAN TOMIMATSU-like philosophy, minimalist but not simple, and I feel the sharpness that only stripped-down things possess.

Also, it somehow feels like it's teaching me something important about fashion, and by extension, about being human.

More than words, I believe it is essential to see DAN TOMIMATSU's creations in person and feel what they evoke.

This might be different from clothing, where you can feel the comfort and quality of the materials on your skin.

However, precisely because of this, I believe we can choose things not just with our five senses, but with our "hearts."

During the exhibition, I hope you will confront your current self and choose jewelry that will accompany your future self.

Please also take a look at the PROCESS RING.
